W I S H L I S T | Lingerie Picks

24 January, 2014

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Talk of lingerie seems to be such a taboo subject within style blogging and I don't quite understand why. We all wear it, in fact we wear it more frequently than probably any other garment in our wardrobe, so why the hush hush? I love pretty undies as much as the next girl, there's something about wearing beautiul underwear beneath your clothes that gives you that little more confidence in everyday life. I've made the conscience decision to throw away underwear now on an annual basis. Too long have I clung to my favourite Topshop bra that I've had since I was sixteen years old that has finally seen the end after one too many rounds in the washing machine.

I've actually struggled to find nice underwear on the high street recently though. I've always been surprisingly fond of H&M's selection over the likes of La Senza which seems to have gone downhill and Ann Summers, which seems to cater more so for ladies with a let's say 'fuller bust'. In my search though I've discovered ASOS have a great selection of lingerie. I've picked some of my favourites from their current collection above and linked them underneath. Do you have any recommendations on where to shop for underwear?

O U T F I T | Double Check

22 January, 2014

Fedora hat: H&M, £12.99
Coat: Urban Outfitters, £35
Shirt (worn underneath): New Look (old)
Velvet tunic: Charity Shop, £3
Trousers: Zara, £9.99
Boots: Urban Outfitters, £7.50
Bag: Primark, £10

I have to apologise for the quality of these photos as my camera is currently on it's death bed so I'm having to resort to my trusty iPhone 4s! I'm intending to finally invest in a Canon 600d, when my student loan shows it's sweet face in my bank account. I'm hoping that's going to be any day now! I wanted this coat as soon as it came in at work, but unfortunately the £145 price tag was non-negotiable. Originally it went down to £70 in the post Christmas sale, and I was tempted, but I'm so glad I waited! The price was slashed in half again and I only paid £21 with my staff discount. To be fair it's almost identical to a favourite Topshop coat of mine, but this one is a little longer and my Topshop one is looking a little worse for wear nowadays. It's actually still available online here.

These dogtooth trousers from Zara were also another sale purchase that were featured in my most recent haul. I originally purchased them at £16.99 in the sale, but returned them for feeling guilty that I had spent a lot this month. However, when I went back into Zara I saw they'd been reduced yet again so I re-purchased them. They're not the most ideal trousers as they are low-rise and I hate low rise anything! However they fit rather nicely around the leg and I've found I can disguise the low rise with longer tops and jumpers. I've never been much of a trousers wearer due to being a little self aware of my bottom half, but I'm embracing them more and more.

It was my birthday on Monday and that's it... I'm 23 years old now, which I'm finding a little hard to take in. Taylor Swift hasn't brought out a song to make me feel any better about it either like she did last year.

W I S H L I S T | Feeling Blue

Tie-Dye Cat Tee | Blue Topaz Necklace | Paisley Crochet Insert Dress | Tassel Bag | Suede Boots | Navy Fedora

When I'm asked my favourite colour I must admit it changes with every season, however more often than not the most frequent answer is blue. A lot of my wardrobe consists of various navy, royal blues, cyans, pastel, electric and sky blues. I especially have a tendency to opt for blue velvet! There's something about the colour blue that just seems to sit well with red hair and fair skin, so I just cannot get enough of it! I've compiled together a little wishlist feast for your eyes dedicated entirely to the colour blue. I must admit I'm a little new to incorporating jewellery into my outfits, but I've picked out a precious, blue topaz necklace from MyJewelryBox, as I think it'll sit nicely on a plunging neckline. It's so simple yet so elegant!

O U T F I T | Ivy & Gold

18 January, 2014

Shirt: H&M, £2
Dress: Urban Outfitters, £5 (old)
Bag: Urban Outfitters, £15 (old)
Necklaces: Camden Market & Matalan
Watch: Michael Kors
Shoes*: c/o DressLily

Oh these boots! Oh, these boots, these boots, THESE BOOTS! I only received them a few days ago from DressLily and I can't deny I absolutely adore them! I even wore them for an entire shift at work today and I received a ton of compliments on them already. I will admit by the end of the day my feet were killing me, but they're a lot more comfortable than most heels I own and I think after a few wears in they'll be like walking on air! The platform is actually made from a soft, foam-like material so they're ever so light and easy to wear, which is always a plus as most of my chunky boots weigh so much that my legs are always aching by the end of the day. And guess what, they only cost a little over $18, which is an absolute steal!

I'm pretty happy with this mixed check print, red shirt too which only set me back £2. I always go a little crazy for the H&M final reductions when stuff is either £1 or £2 and end up with a load of crap I never actually wear. However, this shirt is pretty standard apart from the mixed check which is a bit different from other plaid shirts that are around on the high street, so I think this will evade the 'crap' pile that ends up on eBay after a few months. I hope you're having a good weekend! I'm about to curl up with a cup of tea and The Great Gatsby as I'm a bit late to the party in seeing it!

W I S H L I S T | Printed Dresses

17 January, 2014

All dresses above from Peter Hahn

When on earth did mid-January creep around so quickly?! I mean the rain and the cold weather may still be persistent but before we know it spring will be on our doorsteps, which means a radical wardrobe transformation will be in order. Although I'll miss the velvet and metallic that are staples for me every winter, I'll bid them farewell for another year and begin to welcome spring summer trends into my outfits. One trend in particular that caught my eye was the striking, bright and bold prints that were featured in the like of Mary Katrantzou's SS14 lines as seen below.

I've had a little hunt around online for some printed dresses in preparation of my SS14 wardrobe and I found a whole fortune of printed numbers ideal for the sunnier months on Peter Hahn. I've gathered a collection of six of my favourite dresses on the website above. Now, I know the crochet dress isn't exactly a printed dress, but I thought I would cheat and throw it in there as I love it so much! It would be ideal for a daytime to evening holiday dress, as it would look beautiful with flip-flops or heels and an up-do for the evening. The first, carpet-printed dress is perfectly bohemian as I would team it with my oversized black fedora and a fringed bag, whilst the second tropical-printed dress is more of a statement piece on it's own. The green and red floral prints are both obviously very vintage inspired and would not look out of place in a cute London vintage boutique. There's something about that red one though that just makes me want to grab a bicycle with a basket and cycle through town on a perfect spring day! What do you think of the printed dress trend? Are you as excited about it's arrival in spring as I am?

O U T F I T | Dark Paradise

16 January, 2014

Fur Coat: H&M (old!)
Headband: River Island, £4
Crop Top: Charity Shop, £2
Waistcoat: Charity Shop, £5
Belt: Urban Outfitters Renewal, £5
Trousers:Charity Shop, £2
Rucksack*: c/o Grafea
Shoes*: c/o DressLily

I am fully aware the majority of this outfit is made up of charity shop treasures, but in all honesty most of what I wear is bought from charity shops. My style tends to be mainly influenced by vintage trends, particularly the 60's & 70's, so in that respect I tend to mainly shop vintage over high street. If you can be bothered to trawl through the rubbish charity shops are havens for finding vintage gems at a fraction of the price of vintage specialist shops! For example, these huge palazzo printed trousers were just £2, as was this grungey printed, monochrome cropped top. The embellished waistcoat was a little pricier but it was still only £5, which is such a great price considered how detailled and beautiful the embellishments are. The palazzo pants are definitely more practical for summer as I was absolutely freezing with all these gale force winds we're currently experiencing. Even this magnificent faux fur coat wasn't quite enough to keep me warm today!

This Grafea white leather rucksack has served me so well over the years. I was one of the lucky few bloggers sent one of their rucksacks a few years ago when it featured in this post, but ever since then Grafea has grown as an established brand well-known for it's leather bags. The white Bianca rucksack, which I've styled up here has become particularly popular and iconic. In other news, my current compact camera is definitely on it's way out from the countless times I've dropped it and mistreated it. I think the time has come to invest in a sweet, little DSLR once my student loan has hurried itself into my bank account.

Tartan Skirt, Urban Outfitters, £18 | Tartan Skirt #2, Urban Outfitters, £18 | Cropped Texture Jumper, Urban Outfitters, £20 | Shift Dress, Urban Outfitters, £15 | Polka Dot Blazer, Urban Outfitters, £25 | Paisley Playsuit, Urban Outfitters, £20 | Minkpink Pom Pom Jumpers, Urban Outfitters, £15 | Shiny Leggings, Urban Outfitters, £5 | Moth Trousers, Topshop, £10 | Dogtooth Trousers, Zara, £9.99 | Printed Leggings, Urban Outfitters, £5

Recently I've been watching Youtube video after Youtube video of other blogger's hauls. I'm not particularly ready for the world of Youtube, but it's a been a long, long time since I've shared a haul with you so I thought I'd share with you a fraction of my sales purchases. I haven't photographed them all simply because some of what I've bought has been scrunched up in the bag since I bought it and it's in desperate need of ironing before I photograph it, which I'm too lazy to do today! As you can see the majority of my purchases are actually from Urban Outfitters (jobsworth!), but I genuinely haven't been that impressed by many of the sales this year and a little extra staff discount always helps sway my mind. All products that are still available on the websites are clickable in the caption if you want to snap any of these goodies up yourself! Once I decide to not be so lazy and actually iron my clothes I'll photograph the rest of my sales purchases!

O U T F I T | Love Is To Die

13 January, 2014

Fedora: H&M, £12.99
Gilet: Primark, £18
Top*: c/o Surfdome
Bag*: c/o Nica
Jeans: Primark, £12
Necklace: Matalan, £2
Watch: Michael Kors
Boots: Topshop Allegras (old), £75

This week is the first week since May I've gone back down to part-time hours before I return to university to finish off my degree! I must say the feeling of knowing I have a whole five days off in a row is absolute bliss, although I'm already at a complete loss with what to do with myself! I suppose compiling some research towards my final major project might be a start! I have to apologise for this faux fur gilet repeatedly appearing in my outfit posts and the same goes with the fedora! I just can't help but always throw them on as they work so well together. Also, the fedora helps to hide my roots which I'm attempting to grow out but are currently at that annoyingly awkward length where it just looks horrid. I keep telling myself to persevere rather than reach for a box of dye!

This incredible, psychedelic pansy print cropped number is a little gifted Minkpink top from Surfdome. I could tell you time and time and again that Minkpink is my favourite brand and a large percentage of my wardrobe is Minkpink! If you check this page you can see that Surfdome have a whole host of Minkpink tops available! I just love the black contrast jersey sleeves against the vibrant, optical illusion printed silk panel of the top. Not only does Surfdome.com stock Minkpink but a host of other brands such as Religion, Vans, Superdry, Joules and The North Face. Well worth checking out!

I'm also sporting my new, beloved Nica 'Sara' satchel that was sent to me that you may have read about in my previous blog post. I adore the embossed Art Nouveau print on the leather like material as it really makes it that extra special from the standard satchel. I really loved these £12 skinny high-waisted jeans from Primark when I first purchased them as they were exact replicas of a Topshop pair at a fraction of the price. However, after just one wash they've gone horribly baggy. I know this happens to a lot of jeans and for £12 I really should not complain, but I'm a bit annoyed. It's probably time that I invested in a pair of Dr. Denim Plenty Jeans, which I've been eying up at work. Also, if your ears need a re-fresh you can stream Warpaint's new album a week early through The Guardian's website here. I've listened to it three times already today, so I'm definitely a fan! What do you think?

R E V I E W | Nica Satchel

12 January, 2014

Satchel*: c/o Nica Handbags

Now, when it comes to me and bags I'm usually a little on the scruffy side. My typical day-to-day look is sporting a tapestry rucksack or an ink-stained, illustrated tote bag. However, I'm turning 23 next week (eeeek!), so I'll officially be an adult as Taylor Swift unfortunately hasn't made a song yet dubbed '23', which will excuse me into extending my Peter Pan theory of acting like an irresponsible, scrappy teenager forever - it's time to up my bag game to more appropriate choices! Handbag designer and retailer Nica contacted me just in time asking me to review one of their bags from their new SS14 collection. I chose this rather beautiful, embossed, tan Sara satchel to grace my shoulders. Although Nica offer a smaller, more compact version of the Sara satchel I decided to go for the larger one as I tend to carry rather a lot with me in my daily handbag. The larger version is in fact the perfect size to keep everything in place without being unnecessarily oversized.

The embossed Art Nouveau inspired design adds a subtle vintage edge to the satchel which means it sits perfectly in my wardrobe against all of my other outfits! It also features a bold purple and white printed lining which contrasts nicely against the tan coloured leather. It certainly makes all the difference when the interior of a bag is thought through just as much as the aesthetic of the exterior. Also, I'm pretty much a pocket fiend! I get a little over-excited about a well-placed pocket and the pocket on the rear of this bag is ideal to slip bits in I may need to grab in a hurry like my travelcards, tickets and phone. Nica have a whole range of beautiful satchels on their website and I must say I'm also pretty fond of the 'Alicia' design too!
