I've been thinking, I've been thinking, why can't I keep my fingers off off it, baby? I want you na-na...

What better way to open a blog post than with lyrics to a Queen B song?! There is no better way. But seriously I've been thinking a lot lately concerning Fox & Feather and how I've recently been struggling with it's identity and keeping up with regular posting. I was looking over some posts from 3 years back when I first dipped my toes into the style blogging pool as a baby-faced twenty year old with a handful of free time and a disposable student loan to spend at Topshop. Now I'm a 23 year old graduate living back at home, scraping pennies together so I can continue an unpaid internship in the city whilst having to make the most of what I already have in my wardrobe. Don't get me wrong I'm thoroughly enjoying life right now as I'm out of retail, absolutely loving being an intern within the fashion industry and being surrounded by home comforts. It's just a difficult time to give this blog my full attention like I've been able to in the past.

In it's humble beginnings Fox & Feather (back then called Fox Tales) wasn't awash with brand samples, but was full of outfits compiled from thrifty finds from charity shops merged with affordable high street items. I still shop mainly in secondhand charity and vintage shops, but I feel that no longer plays a part so much on this blog. Of course all of the samples I feature are items I feel suited to my style and I would honestly purchase myself (if I ever had the money!), that has always been an important factor to me. However, it's easy to get caught up in the looming pile of clothes that you know you have to feature usually within a time frame, which is becoming harder and harder for me to keep up with. Luckily the brands I work with are incredible and are fully understanding, but I can't help but feel a little guilty when I can't post a product sometimes up to four weeks after it arrives just because sometimes real life gets in the way.

I don't like to do my outfit shots half arsed anymore. I feel the photography has really developed over the past few months, which is down to my upgraded SLR camera as well as a lot of time and patience from my boyfriend who has really done the most wonderful job! Due to our relationship now being long distance this means I only see him once every fortnight, which also means the outfit shots have to wait until then. This has really been a struggle in keeping posts regular, but I would rather wait than upload some self-shot photos that I'm not entirely happy with. I hope you can be patient with me on this as I try to find a way around it.

Although as I mentioned before finding time is a struggle whilst I'm interning Monday-Friday and visiting Southampton on weekends, I really want to bring back the original thrifty element that kick-started my blog. I've also been trying to build up a lifestyle sector on here, because believe it or not I have more passions and influence beyond clothes. I'm sorry for the rant word vomit all over your screens. I just believe it's best to be honest. I'm not ready to give up on Fox & Feather just yet. I hope you guys can bear with me.

  3. Loved this post Leigh and felt myself nodding to every word. I had similar thoughts with ol' Jazzpad a few weeks ago and made a few changes that meant I could actually live my life without feeling guilty/resentful of what I had to do in front of a computer screen. Enjoy it - we won't blame you for taking a day or two off! <3 Claire @ Jazzpad
