Flashsticks Language Learning Tool Review

Flashsticks Language Learning Tool Review

In recent years, it's become more apparent to me just how beneficial learning a second language would be. Not only does it help you on your travels, but it opens up job opportunities and potential career opportunities abroad.

Flashsticks are a company that have developed an innovative way in helping you learn another language and I was given the opportunity to put their language learning tools to the test. I decided to opt for the Spanish beginners kit as the only language experience I've had before is GCSE French & German, which sits somewhere tucked away in the back of my mind. I thought it would be beneficial to add some vocabulary from a whole new language into my mind for my future travels. When I visited Tenerife earlier in the year, I found I didn't know nearly enough Spanish for staying in such a local orientated city.

That summer feeling has well and truly hit me. With the sun beaming most days, that inevitable hayfever sniffle, an incurable urge to eat ice cream 24/7 and freckles re-appearing all over my skin, I can finally say summer is here!

The 70s Called, They Want Their Jacket Back

22 May, 2016

Jacket*: Beyond Retro // Hat*: ASOS (similar) // Sunglasses: Spitalfields Market // Dress*: TOBI // Necklace: Primark // Boots: Missguided

For the first time in a decade I haven't got any upcoming festivals planned - ZERO, ZILCH! It's a strange and unnatural feeling not having any lined up for the summer months and I'm bound to suffer with a serious case of FOMO, especially during Glastonbury Festival next month. I'm tempted to just runaway to another country for a weekend to avoid any TV coverage. Who's with me?

However, having no festivals on the horizon doesn't stop me from dressing the part over the coming months. My day-to-day summer wardrobe resembles a festival frolicker, even if it just means popping to the shops or going out for coffee. I tend to mix up vintage with high street or secondhand, modern pieces most days but still aim for that late 60s to early 70s look that has become my daily uniform.

A Blogging Essential: Penclic B3 Mouse Review

18 May, 2016

Technology reviews aren't usually my thing, but when the opportunity to review a Penclic B3 mouse landed in my inbox, I was intrigued.

As a digital marketer and social media manager by day and a blogger by night, it's fair to say I spend a lot of my time in front of a computer screen. A lot of bloggers like myself are in the same boat with digital based careers meaning without realising there is a lot of pressure and strain on our hands, which are consistently curled in an unnatural and uncomfortable position over our mouse, touchpad and keyboard. This motion can lead to severe RSI (repetitive strain injury), which can cause aches in your wrists and fingers, as well as long term damage.

I'm A Not-So-Crazy Cat Lady (& A CAT THEMED GIVEAWAY!)

14 May, 2016
Not So Crazy Cat Lady Blogger

I'm a self-confessed crazy cat lady; I live with seven at the moment! The cats actually outnumber the humans in this household.

The reason I crossed out the crazy is because my love of cats (and all animals, great and small!) has not led me to any erratic, unstable behaviour that has deemed me to be unfit for social situations or finding a partner. 'Crazy cat lady' is a term that has so many, unnecessary negative connotations attached. I mean just look at the Crazy Cat Lady from The Simpsons who is depicted as nothing more lonely, screaming, older woman whose past time happens to be launching one of her hundred cats at anyone and everyone. It's because of popular culture images like this that single cat owners have been given a bit of an unfair reputation over the years.

Oxfam Vintage's Face of the 70s

A few months ago I entered Oxfam's #VintageFaceandStyle competition to be the face of the 1970s for them (read the post here). Well, I only went and bloody won, didn't I?! This was such a huge deal for me, because not only am I besotted with the seventies but I'm a huge advocate for secondhand shopping and spend my time hunting through charity shops. I'm absolutely delighted to be representing my favourite decade of the past for such a wonderful, generous, worldwide charity.

A few weeks ago, I was whisked off to not-so-sunny Leeds where the Oxfam Online store's HQ is based. I was lucky enough to have my hair styled by Nicky Clarke's wonder team, my make-up done by none other than celebrity MUA, Rosie Lewis and was shot by well renowned photographer, Benjamin Tietge.

Between getting dolled up and shooting we were able to explore the treasure trove of a warehouse that houses hundreds upon hundreds... maybe even thousands of vintage garms. I was like a kid in a candy shop, I tell you! It took a lot of restraint not to bring home several new additions to my wardrobe. It was lovely to hang out with the other blogger girls each representing their decade too: Krissi styling out the 80s, Sarah channelling the 60s & Nora echoing the 50s.

I also filmed a little vlog of my time travelling and shooting for Oxfam, so have a watch and maybe subscribe to my new(ish) channel if you can tolerate my awkwardness & Essex twang...

I'd love to thank Oxfam for having us and making it such an incredible experience. You can read more about the #VintageFaceandStyle competition over on the Oxfam website here. Maybe you'll want to shop their incredible 70s archive collection too?

Top Things to See & Do in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

09 May, 2016

Back in February, James and me were lucky enough to be sent to experience the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnaval with Thomas Cook Airlines. Santa Cruz stands as one of the capital cities of the Canary Islands and annually hosts the second biggest carnival in the world after Rio!

We spent just under a week exploring the city during it's electric carnival season and spent our days seeking out the best spots on the island. I've also written a blog post for Thomas Cook's website, which you may want to take a gander at, but I also wanted to share a few of my favourite snippets with you on Fox & Feather too.

In all honesty, we spent most of our week drinking cheaper than chips sangria in the sun and nursing a daily hangover (typical Carnaval collateral damage). Between those long nights and heavy mornings we squeezed in a few other activities and sights that I thoroughly recommend if you're visiting this Canarian capital city. Santa Cruz is a little less tourist orientated than the south of Tenerife and boasts a more authentic Canary Island way of life than the south, however it should not be disregarded as a holiday spot as there is plenty to see and do around this magnificent city!

The Post #PetalParty Blues

08 May, 2016

You may have seen it all over my social channels last week or you may have already read my previous post regarding my excitement at attending Boots' #PetalParty. Yep, you read that right: A PETAL PARTY! It was held in a bid to raise awareness for night time hayfever, which they have suitably named Insneezia (kudos to whoever came up with that genius name!) and it was BLOOMIN' marvellous!

From 7pm - 8pm last Wednesday, Boots took over St. Christopher's Place in London and showered the streets with a flurry of petals (three million to be exact - I feel for the person that counted them!), which I can only describe as 'the most Instagramable moment in the history of time'.

Festival Styling in Everyday Life

With Coachella kicking off the festival season last month, 'festival fashion' has started to dominate the high street once again. The phrases 'festival fashion' or 'festival chic' are ones I personally find rather cringey as the whole festival fashion concept been given a bit of a bad reputation in recent years. With an influx of flower crowns, crop tops, denim shorts and neon face paints, it seems to have become a little predictable. In fact, this year I found myself flicking through Coachella street style shots feeling completely uninspired for the first time. Now I am guilty of sporting a flower crown (or five), but festival attire should never ever be oh so predictable.

As a festival frolicker myself, I actually love dressing for festivals and a fair percentage of my wardrobe would not look out of place on the rolling hills of Glastonbury. Festival fashion should be far from predictable as festivals are a form of escapism, where you can take a step aside from the real world and take on a whole new identity for the weekend. The more eccentric, the better!

Give me glitter, give me colour, give me clashing patterns, smudged make-up and a fruity cider in the sun!

Boots #PetalParty & London Hotel Stay Giveaway

01 May, 2016

Did you know hayfever can spring up on us at any point in our life?

I contently strolled through my childhood, teenage years and early twenties without even a sniffle at the sight of freshly cut grass or a blooming field of flowers. I was completely ignorant to how hayfever allergies can ruin those supposedly blissful summer months. Then two years ago, hayfever suddenly had me! It's only the beginning of May and my eyes have already started streaming and I constantly have to have a tissue to hand to stop my ever runny nose - glamorous, right?

Boots have launched a campaign to raise awareness for one of the less frequently talked about side effects of hayfever, which they've aptly named 'Insneezia'. Insneezia an insomniac effect on hayfever sufferers that causes a lack of sleep due to their symptoms developing at night. If you've experienced hayfever you may know how difficult it can be sleeping when your allergies flare up.
