When I first found Palm Vaults over on Instagram they jumped straight to the top of my 'to visit' list the next time I was in London. I spent far too long scrolling through their feed of mouth watering treats, multi-coloured coffees and absolutely splendid decor which is crawling with greenery and overgrown foliage; this place was already my home from home and I hadn't even had the chance to visit. Their dedication to aesthetic as well as food and drink is obvious, but I dig that.

So a few weeks ago I was invited to Citadel Festival in Victoria Park, which was conveniently just a 10 minute bus journey from Palm Vaults. Needless to say, I seized the chance to organise brunch with Kaye before we headed to the festival and luckily she was just as enthusiastic as me to drop by once she'd had a scroll through their social media channels. If there's one thing to commend Palm Vaults on, it's their marketing via word of mouth. I've seen their signature green plants and pale pink decor consistently plastered all over my social feed for weeks on end as people take a mini pilgrimage to Hackney to snap a photo of their perfect pink public loo (myself included).

Palm Vaults itself is located just a five minute walk from Hackney Central station (Overground Line) and shines out like a glittery, pink beacon against the other mundane shop fronts of Mare Street. As you step into space crawling with tropical greens and pale pink velvet upholstery, you're instantly thrown into the world of 1970s Miami rather than the East end of London and I fucking love it. I really, really do.

When I arrived, Kaye had already eaten as I was running a little late (whoops, sorry babe), but she recommended the avocado on sour dough toast to me (£4). As an avocado advocate, I was more than happy to take on that recommendation, but I couldn't help but add the grilled halloumi on top (+ £1.50). After my train journey form Southampton, I was in dire need of caffeine, but I was too intrigued to try their famous pink velvet latte. You heard that right; a PINK latte!

Unfortunately it doesn't have any caffeine in, but it's a delicious mixture of almond milk, vanilla and beetroot, which gives it the vivid pink colour. Dare I say, it's the most 'Instagramable' drink I've ever seen. Kaye opted for a coffee & avocado smoothie which was utterly deeeelicious - I even tried to recreate it at home here (SPOILER: it just did not compare).

The hype for Palm Vaults is well-deserved. It's unique and has such a cool, kick ass, laid back vibe with really friendly staff and a great soundtrack to boot. I'll definitely be re-visiting as much as possible now I'll be spending a lot more time back in the city.
