A Few Reasons Why You Should Start Secondhand Shopping

Secondhand shopping was something that was always frowned upon when I was growing up. Despite being raised within a working class family and accepting hand-me-downs on the sly, I grew up in the heart of a wealthy area of Essex where fellow teens were casually sporting the latest Burberry quilted jacket and Louis Vuitton bag, and the idea of shopping in charity shops or car boot sales were seen to be unacceptable. It wasn't until I moved away for university and started really managing my own budget that I started shopping secondhand regularly and found a love for it, especially with the huge vintage revival which suited my yearning for anything from the 60s and 70s perfectly.

Shopping used items nowadays and trawling through charity shops is no where near as looked down upon thanks to vintage becoming 'cool' and covetable again. Although it's starting to die down a little bit away from mainstream trends now, it still influences them tremendously. I've pieced together a little reminder as to why switching our shopping to vintage and secondhand shouldn't be forgotten anytime soon.

Three Things You Should Use Your Gothenburg City Card For

Visiting Styrsö Gothenburg with a City Card
Is a Gothenburg City Card worth the money?

For my May instalment of "Leigh's 12 in 12" mission (read a little more about that here), I visited the city of Gothenburg for a whirlwind 48 hours with my gal pal, Kaye. Coincidently we actually booked it over Eurovision weekend, so decided to make that the focus of our trip and partied with the locals in a gay bar, whilst trying to hide the fact we were British ...until we were several beers down and started cheering the house down every time the UK managed to scrape a few points!

In between our beer guzzling, singing and nursing our well-deserved hangovers, we made the most of our short time in the Swedish city exploring as much as we possibly could. Thanks to our Gothenburg city cards*, exploring was made all the more easier and much more convenient. Having the city card meant all of our public transport was covered without the hassle of trying to work out how to purchase a travel card, and it granted us access to the majority of the city's must-see attractions.

12 Cities in 12 Months

12 May, 2017

I've set myself a mission: I'm attempting to visit twelve different cities over the course of twelve months.

The trend of visiting twelve different countries in twelve months is something that was adopted by a number of travel bloggers in recent years, however to start slow I've adapted it slightly, so it's a little kinder to my bank account, and I've pledged to visit twelve cities outside of my hometown (London) over a twelve month period. I decided to start this after realising I had unintentionally planned three different city breaks over three consecutive months; Berlin in March, Reykjavik in April and Gothenburg in May. I suppose that I kind of fell into the trend and decided to continue it to make it my own.

Five Things You Should Totally Do During Your First Trip To Iceland

Five Things You Should Totally Do During Your First Trip To Iceland

If you follow me on the 'gram, you'll have seen that at the start of April I travelled to Iceland for a five-day break with James. The trip was actually part of my birthday present from him (extra boyfriend points to him), and it was honestly one of the most wonderful adventures I've had to this day. I've never quite had another holiday like it and it's a trip that will stay close to my heart for the rest of my life.

As a first time-timer, it can be a little overwhelming when it comes to planning what to do and see in Iceland, especially when there is just so darn much to see and do! I thought I'd put a little guide together based on my trip and what I would recommend you prioritise on your itinerary.

A few weekends ago I was invited to attend Cosmopolitan's first ever 'Self Made Summit' with Very, which was a day dedicated to budding (mainly female) entrepreneurs, digital nomads and blogger types with lots of scheduled panels with industry experts, food, networking, beauty pop-ups, more food, business advice, and oh did I mention food?! Despite having run this blog the past six years and spending the past three working within digital marketing and PR, I was still eager to attend as I'm always keen to further my knowledge within both blogging and marketing. Plus, it gave me a great excuse to wake up early on a Saturday morning when I would usually be nursing a hangover.
