My Three Wardrobe Essentials for a City Trip

Packing for a city trip away can be a nightmare for the indecisive, especially when you're not sure what the weather will be doing whilst you're away. Considering I've been travelling more frequently I've started to narrow down my packing from taking an extra 20kg suitcase with too many options (and paying a ridiculous amount) to just travelling with hand luggage most of the time. Packing lighter means taking extra consideration on what to bring and what essentials you'll need rather than options. I've compiled a little post on three of my absolute wardrobe essentials for any city trip.

1. A bag that's big enough to carry all of my cameras and other junk

Bag*: Radley London

I know it's probably obvious, but a decent bag for trekking around a new city during the day is always top of my 'to pack' list. In typical blogger fashion, I tend to carry around at least two or three cameras with me, including digital and film, so I need a bag that can contain all of my cameras, plus everything else I'll need for the day. Whilst backpacks are a great option for balancing out the weight and strain on your back compared to a handbag, sometimes I feel more comfortable with a bag I can keep under my arm to deter any potential pickpockets.

This palm print holdall from Radley accompanied me to Copenhagen earlier this month and it was just the perfect size to hold all of my daily belongings without being too big to be a nuisance. Also, just how gorgeous is the palm print on it?! It's actually doubled tripled up as a beach bag and a gym bag too!

2. A comfortable pair of trainers

I've spent many city breaks in the past hobbling around the cobbled streets in ridiculously uncomfortable, pointed ankle boots just because they would 'match my outfit better'. You see so many Instagram photos of girls tottering around these beautiful, picture perfect streets with these beautiful, sky high shoes, and although the shoes and the setting may come together beautifully, I find it hard to believe they've been exploring the city all day in those shoes without breaking their ankles. Yeah, I'll bring a nicer and ultimately more uncomfortable pair of shoes for the evening, but nothing beats your favourite pair of well worn in trainers for spending at least 8 hours on your feet!

My copper Reebok classics are my 'go to' for when I know I'm going to be on my feet for most of the day. In fact, I'll be gutted the day they fall apart through so much wear.

3. A day-to-night midi dress

Despite trying to become more of a *practical* packer, I'm still completely conscious of my styling. After all, I know when I go on holiday that I plan to take a lot of photos and I'll admit I still want to wear something that reflects my style. I tend to try and pack outfits that transition well from exploring the city by day to bar and restaurant hopping by night and I've found packing a few different dresses, specifically midi dresses for personal preference, makes a great option for this. Dresses can be both dressed up and down for both sides of city break by day and night; all I ever tend to change is my shoes if I have the time to nip back to the hotel or apartment in the evening. By pre-planning an easy all-day outfit you can save extra space in your hand luggage!
