90's Inspired Wishlist

25 October, 2013

All pieces from Avenue 32

The 90's trend arrived on the scene a fair while back and it's still going strong on the high street and on the catwalks. With the revival of candy-coloured hair, platform shoes and plaid prints it seems the 90's trend is here to stay for a little while longer. Cher Horowitz from Clueless is definitely a steady style icon in my books for the time being. What's great about the 90's trend is just how much fun it is and it's becoming more and more diverse. I was completely unsure of the PVC trend at the first appearance of it, but I've grown to absolutely adore it. This pink PVC skirt I've picked would look dreamy when teamed with a fully-buttoned blouse, a fur gillet and chunky boots.

Plaid and tartan prints are my favourite for this winter, and I'm on the hunt for the perfect tartan blazer. Also, I've had my eye on a number of fluffy jumpers to wear underneath one and different accessories and jewellery to complete the look and make a statement. All I need now is a Dream Phone and an inflatable backpack to make a truly 90's outfit.

O U T F I T | Joseph

23 October, 2013

Dress*: c/o Joseph
Hat: H&M, £12.99
Shoes: eBay, £28

I've been contemplating a lot recently that maybe now I'm 22 years old it is time to re-think and de-clutter my wardrobe in order to replace all the tat with lifelong investment pieces such as this beautiful, striking, blue, pleated dress from Joseph. With a lot of disposable fashion retailers on the high street such as Primark with their ridiculously cheap prices and up to date trends it's easy to get sucked into spending a fair amount of money on 10 pieces which you'll only wear once or twice before they're shoved to the back of the wardrobe as they're out of season once more. I must admit in recent weeks I've been more impressed with the quality of Primark, but I really want to re-shape my entire wardrobe and eradicate a lot of the high street garments in favour of vintage pieces and long-lasting, classic designer numbers that I'll wear again and again over the years. There are so many alternative ways and other websites to sell your unwanted clothes nowadays unlike the obvious method of eBay.

This particular Joseph dress is a little more chic and sophisticated that what I'm used to. I struggled to style it a little and I'm still convinced it would look better without tights but this bitter weather will not permit that. I think the key with this classic dress is to keep it simple. I must admit I'm a little aware of every inch of my figure as I'm not used to wearing something so body-con, but I think I need to start overcoming my phobia of more fitted clothing. The dress is so well-crafted and I know it'll last me years upon years and will definitely be making multiple appearances next spring and summer!

O U T F I T | Dressed Like a Boy

20 October, 2013

Top: Urban Outfitters, £7.50
Beanie: Primark, £3
Backpack: Charity Shop, £3
Doc Marten's: Secondhand (old)

Even though I love extravagant clothing with platform soles and big faux furs, I'm at my most comfortable wearing an oversized tee and my oldest pair of Doc Marten's that I've owned since I was 15. Growing up I was always a tomboy choosing skateboards and football over Barbies and make-up, which I think has had an influence on my adult life. I'm a pretty sucky girl. Make-up techniques are lost on me, my nail art is abysmal and I CANNOT BAKE. What kind of excuse of a woman am I?

I am a fan of beautiful, floaty, bell-sleeved dresses and towering shoes, but sometimes androgyny is my friend. This particular t-shirt was actually from the menswear section at work and it's an ideal length to work as a dress (although I always wear a pair of super short shorts underneath in case of any mishaps). Even the beanie hat is from the menswear section in Primark. Sometimes just comfort is key.

O U T F I T | Reel Around The Fountain

14 October, 2013

Dress*: c/o Pussycat London
Kimono: Minkpink (old)
Hat: New Look (old)
Chelsea Boots: Urban Outfitters

Here's a second little number that was sent to me by Pussycat London that is ideal for everyday wear. The mixed floral print is adorable, whilst not being overly summery so it works perfectly with tights in this bitterly cold weather. It has an elasticated waistband so the fit is ever so flattering as it cinches you in without the use of a belt. On top of that it's on sale for only £9.99, which is unbelievable! It also appears I do love my burgundy headwear, as in the previous post I was donning my new burgundy beanie. I've got to say it is a favourable choice when it comes to purchasing headwear. I bought this hat a few summers ago from New Look and it has served me well. The floppy 70's felt hat is such a classic, iconic accessory that I plan to keep for a long time.

Don't forget there's still time to enter my giveaway in collaboration with Chi Chi London to win a dress of your choice. You can find details and enter here!

O U T F I T | The Wind Cries Mary

11 October, 2013

Jumpsuit*: c/o Pussycat London
Rucksack*: c/o Grafea
Belt: Vintage via Urban Outfitters, £5
Beanie: Primark, £3
Boots: eBay, £28

What is possibly more fabulous than a silky black, plunge neckline, wide leg jumpsuit?! You tell me. Maybe the alternative in a leopard print, but I don’t think I quite have the courage to don quite a number. I’m obsessed with jumpsuits. OBSESSED. What’s not to love about a slouchy, one-piece that allows all your lunging needs without exposing your pants. I’m not the most graceful lady, so playsuits and jumpsuits have indeed been my saving grace on alcohol-infused night outs keeping my modesty firming intact and covered. Unfortunately despite being a loyal supporter of the almighty jumpsuit, I am still a little picky when it comes to selecting them for my own wardrobe. I’ve seen far too many ill-fitted numbers that resemble nightwear and are more suitable for days in bed rather than to be seen outside of the bedroom, let alone the house.

This full-length, black romper is however meant to be seen. In fact I always want it to be seen. Despite being a jumpsuit there is something so elegant about the way it falls and I absolutely adore it. Also, it’s an absolute steal at just £16 from Pussycat London! You can’t even buy a train ticket for that nowadays (I say that as I’m typing this from a grubby coach to London, after not being able to afford the train, so please forgive my bitterness)! It would not look out of place at a formal evening event. However, I cannot even remember the last time I attended an event to wear such a piece, so for a day-to-day look I dressed it down with my newly acquired beanie hat from the menswear department in Primark and my trusty, chunky, buckle boots.

Last night I worked the night shift in preparing the Urban Outfitters sale. There’s some pretty good bargains to be had with at least 50% off. No one does a sale like we do, so go and take a gander here. Well worth spending your pocket money on!
